Come to Red Lodge, Montana for the annual National Finals Ski-Joring Races competition, March 13th and 14th from
11:30-4:30 each day.
The event itself is a timed event in which a horse and rider pull a skier around a course consisting of approximately 750 feet, 24 gates and 4 jumps. The horse usually travels around the inside of the course while the skier negotiates around the gates and over the jumps in hopes of completing two successful runs. There are penalties for missed gates and the skier must be upright and have a least one ski on at the finish line. Divisions include Open, Sport, Women’s, Junior (age 13-17) and the Pee-Wee Division for those 12 and under. We’re adding “X-Joring to our divisions this year for the snowboarding enthusiast. There is a Longest Jump event as well which is open to anyone 18 years or older, and awards go to the individual whose combined distance for the two days is the greatest. The prizes this year include up to $20,000 in cash and prizes, including belt buckles and champion vests. The two day event starts at 11:30 A.M. both days and promises thrills, spills and nonstop action. Admission is $5 and parking is free. Concessions will be available but protection from the elements is not so spectators are encouraged to bring anything from blankets to shorts...It’s anybody’s guess for the weather in March.
